Welcome to Meal Planning Monday. They day when we all should sit down and write out our meal plan for the week. This is a great way to make a plan and base that plan off of what you have in your fridge, freezer and cupboards. This way you can shop the sales and cut down on your food bill. I always do this all the time.
This past Sunday I was in Food Lion and I found a great deal on a bone in Ham. So I picked it up and guess what we are having this week? Ham!!! So in my family there is only three of us. So you can just imagine we will have a ton of left overs but that is ok. I will put my $8.74 ham to the test and see how many meals I can make from it. Here is my meal plan for the week.
Monday - Sliced Ham, Potatoes and Corn
Tuesday - Split pea soup <- br="" favorites="" my="" of="" one="" yum="">->
Wednesday - Ham & Broccoli Casserole
Thursday - Ham & Corn Chowder
Friday - Pineapple & Ham Pizza
Saturday - Breakfast for Dinner - Fried Eggs, Fried Ham and Hash-browns
Sunday - Grilled Cheese and Ham Sandwich with Tomato Bisque Soup
From that one ham I have a whole week of meals for my family of three which I make for four so that my hubby will have left overs for Lunch to take to work next week. No I am not worried about having ham for a whole week because each meal is so different in taste. I love meal plans like this and it will cost me all less then $30 to feed my family for the week.
Score!

Holy Ham! You are definitely enjoying ham for the week. I always admire someone who plans for the week. I have to ask my husband every day what he wants for supper, otherwise, there is lots of complaints. Mind you, he often leaves it up to me, but when he wants something specific, I cook that!

My Hubby is the same way. This was more to show that you can take a big piece of one kind of meat and make a week out of it, I normally freeze in portions and use at different times.
DeleteI wish I could do what you did! I don't know why I guess I just don't know that many recipes and a limited amount of money. The dishes you have sounds so good do you have a link to the recipes? Thanks
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
DeleteYou can check out my split pea soup recipe, I am going to be working on some more recipes with ham in the upcoming week so stay tuned.
I do this to when ham is on sale - only time I buy it. Make a meal , keep some for soup, some for pot pie and or ham salad . Sometime ham is cheaper than hamburg on sale .I dont make all them in the same week I slice and freeze what I dont use the first day.
